Is it to late for planting garlic?

I live in Northern Ca and we have a solid 3 month frost free zone and usually a 4 month frost free time from Mid May to Mid September. I usually plant my garlic in October and November. This year I couldn't plant in the fall and am wondering if I can still plant garlic in late January or February?

Garlic Planting
by: Farmer Dave

Greetings Dan
Planting garlic in February works great that is when we usually plant our garlic. You save yourself a weeding which is usually done in February or march in a fall planted garlic patch.
I also live in Northern CA. I have a similar 3-4 month frost free season from about mid May to mid September.

I find that in our area we usually get a 2-3 week nice spell in February so we plant our garlic then. We have well drained soil so we can work the soil soon after a rain. The plants do as well as garlic planted in the fall. The only catch is if you don't get that break in February you may have to plant in a March weather break which still works but can affect the size of the garlic. This year we won't be home for part of February so we planted in the fall. Plant in February, and let me know how your garlic grows.
