Hyampom School Gardens Blog soil testing

Hyampom School Gardens Blog soil testing

Tuesday, January 25, 2011
The students of Hyampom School did soil testing to check our soil and to check the compost we will be introducing. We had to let the soil and the compost sit in water for a little while. Then we used a pipette to collect the soil/water mixture to check for mineral content and pH. We found our soil was a little depleted of minerals and that the compost had high levels of minerals. The pH was around 6.5-7.0 for both.
When we went into the greenhouse, we found out our lettuce was starting to sprout.
We also did some measuring to figure out a garden plan. We feel excited about being independent and providing natural vegetables for our school!

The Rose Family Victory Garden

I have been homesteading for the last 30 years creating a
“Permaculture Homestead”.

Living on a beautiful river we are growing about 80 % of our food in large organic gardens.

I had a dream, now I am living that dream.
