Hyampom School Gardens 1-20-2011
by Farmer Dave
(Hyampom CA)
This is our first gardening class at the local Hyampom School in Northern CA.
We have started growing an organic garden to bring some good food to our school and an organic consciousness to our children.
We had a great day sifting compost donated by the local summer camp known as "Camp Trinity".
Then we used the compost to fill flats and plant lettuce, spinach and broccoli.
It has been sunny weather and the green house was warm. So we dug a bed in the green house and planted lettuce and spinach there too.
.
We also planted some cover crops in the garden area where we plan to grow summer veggies. These cover crops will help feed the soil when we turn them in before planting.
A very successful first day in the school gardens.
