Free Mulch Field Trip
by Annie Gee
(Southern Cal.)
Even though we are under 8 inches of snow, my husband took some of the children to shovel up mulch in a nearby town. This is a first for us. We are really trying to amend the soil before we plant our seedlings. The seedling were planted in the last few weeks and will not be ready for in the ground planting until April. I am excited and I hope that we are able to boost vegetable production this year. We have a lot of mouths to feed.
Hi Annie
Nice to hear what your family is doing. Mulch, compost and organic fertilizer will make a big difference in your soil texture and nutrient level. A soil test can be a good idea to really target your amendments to any specific deficiency.
On the other hand the more the better and your plants will be your test. Soil PH is an important factor to keep in mind.
I bet you have a great garden this year, your off to a good start!
Post some pictures would love to see your garden and family.
To a great garden season
Farmer Dave
